Essential Electrical Knowledge

If you want to understand how to diagnose and fix electrical faults in modern vehicles this course is the place to start.This course has been designed to give you the understanding & confidence to work on and repair 12-volt electrical systems.

Having a good understanding and confidence regarding what electricity is and how to test electrical circuits is very important for any vehicle technician in today’s world.

Course Content

• The fundamentals of what electricity is and how it reacts in electrical circuits
• How to correctly measure voltage, current and resistance
• Use of the correct tool to test the circuit/component
• How to prove what part of the circuit/component is at fault

There is ample practical work within this course to reinforce the classroom learning, including expert help from experienced technicians.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this training event.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion you will be able to:

• Test electrical circuits in the correctly and with confidence
• Carry out volt drop testing
• Carry out load testing
• Understand what a multimeter is telling you
• Diagnose open circuits, high resistances and short circuits
• Know how to read and use wiring diagrams to help pinpoint faults

You will know how to approach an electrical fault and carry out the correct tests, in the correct order, to provide a fix in the shortest timeframe.
