If you want to understand how modern petrol engine management systems work this course is the place to start.

This course has been designed to give you the understanding & ability to test and diagnose petrol engine management components found under the bonnets of today’s vehicles.
br>Having a good understanding & confidence in this field is very important for any vehicle technician in today’s workshop.

Course Content

  • What the different components are & what they do
  • How to test every sensor & actuator found on today’s systems
  • What the difference is between “open loop” and “closed loop” control
  • Look at fuel trim as a diagnostic tool

There is ample practical work within this course to reinforce the classroom learning, including expert help from experienced technicians.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this training event however having attended the Essential Electrical Knowledge course plus the Scope course would be an advantage.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion you will be able to:

  • Identify engine management components
  • Test engine management sensors & actuators
  • Have a better understanding of petrol emission control systems
  • Understand the term “fuel trim” & what it means
  • Test electrical circuits correctly and with confidence using a scope
  • Know how to read and use wiring diagrams to help pinpoint faults

You will know how to approach a petrol engine management fault with more confidence and carry out the correct tests, using the correct equipment in the correct order, to provide a fix in the shortest timeframe.
