Overview

IMI EV Service & Maintenance

This 2-day course comprises of 5 units:

• Unit 1 – Basic Electrics
• Unit 2 – Computer Based Test Equipment
• Unit 3 – Serviceability of Vehicle Systems
• Unit 4 – Electric Vehicle High Voltage System Inspection & Testing
• Unit 5 – Electric Vehicle Inspection, Service Routine & Best Practice

Unit 1 – Basic Electrics
This module is to assess the technician’s knowledge, skill and ability to diagnose a simple electrical fault.

• Access vehicle information, such as component location and appropriate electrical wiring diagrams and use these together with electrical test equipment, such as a multi-meter (volts, amps, ohms) to diagnose a system fault
• Upon electrical fault diagnosis, demonstrate the ability to rectify the fault and check the system is functioning as per the vehicle manufacturer’s original specification

Unit 2 – Computer Based Test Equipment
This module is to determine that the technician can use computer- based test equipment.

• Locate fault codes and use live data, carry out setting procedures for vehicle service lamps and specialist service requirements for specific systems that are used during vehicle servicing and repairs
• Use appropriate vehicle information to locate components, carry out visual and operational checks to determine the functionality of a component
• Ensure all appropriate health & safety procedures are followed and wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment during the assessment

Unit 3 – Serviceability of Vehicle Systems
This module is to determine that the technician can establish the serviceability of braking, steering and suspension system components covering mechanical, hydraulic and electrical.

• Make recommendations for components that are serviceable and those that require replacement
• Replace components and check that their subsequent functionality conforms to vehicle manufacturer specifications
• Ensure all appropriate health & safety procedures are followed and wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment during the assessment

Unit 4 – Electric Vehicle High Voltage System Inspection & Testing
This module is to determine that the technician can establish the serviceability of Electric Vehicle High Voltage systems. (IMI level 2 EV/hybrid equivalent)

• Make recommendations for components that are serviceable and those that require replacement and if required carry out vehicle disconnect in line with vehicle manufacturers data
• Ensure all appropriate health & safety procedures are followed and wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment during the assessment

Unit 5 – Electric Vehicle Inspection, Routine Servicing, & Best Practice
This module is to determine that the technician can establish the service routine of EV vehicles, ensuring best practice is embedded throughout.

• Establish a failsafe routine that supports the need to make recommendations regarding components that are serviceable and those that require replacement
• Complete a detailed report of vehicle findings and potential future requirements for the vehicle (i.e. rear brake pads 30% remaining)
• Ensure all appropriate health & safety procedures are followed and wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment during the assessment

Prerequisite
To enrol on the course, delegates must have achieved a minimum of IMI L2 Electric/Hybrid Vehicles – Unit 2.2.

Certification
Successful completion of this course is recognised through an IMI Professional Achievement Certificate (PAC).
